Long before Flaming Gorge Dam was
completed in 1964, biologist had a concept to turn the
lake and river below the dam into one of the greatest
trout fisheries in the world. As of the new millennium
they are not far off. The Green River is a year round
fishery. This is due to, in part, the one of a kind
penstocks that were installed as part of the dam.
These penstocks have allowed the water temperatures to
remain constant year round. The by-product of this is
a huge biomass in the river. Hence, there are 10,000
fish per mile for your enjoyment. The Drifters believe
that this body of water is the best dry fly fishery in
the west. Year round there are always fish looking
up. Of course there are times where other
methods are more productive. Our catch and release
policy has been thoroughly embraced by every species
of fish in the river. The browns, rainbows, cutthroats
and cutbow hybrids are all waiting your arrival.
